County Executive hosts “beam raising” ceremony to celebrate latest phase of the ROC Airport Renovation Project;
Steel arch spans 80 ft., weighs 13,000 lbs., installed with a 140 ft. crane

Monroe County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo was today joined by Lt. Governor Kathy Hochul and local project stakeholders for a “beam raising” ceremony to celebrate the installation of the first steel arch in the Greater Rochester International Airport (ROC) Terminal Entrance Canopy.

Traffic & Pedestrian Pattern Updates Passengers should expect lane reductions upon entering terminal property from Brooks Avenue.  A crane is onsite and the initial materials are being delivered for starting installation of terminal entrance canopy steel early next week. The Upper Level Departures roadway remains CLOSED until project completion at the end of October 2018.  All traffic must use the Lower Level Roadway for both Arrivals & Departures. Family and friends picking up passengers are highly encouraged to stage in the new Smart Phone Lot, to reduce curbside congestion

Terminal Update The contractors continue to construct the piers on the upper level departures roadway that will be the foundation for the new Terminal Entrance Canopy to be built upon. The newly relocated Hudson News store is now open in the center food court.  Additional temporary construction walls are being installed in the food court for future relocation of existing food concessions. The installation of fabricated steel to support the terminal expansion in the food court continues.

Terminal Update The contractors are constructing the piers on the upper level departures roadway that will be the foundation for the new Terminal Entrance Canopy to be built upon. The newly relocated Hudson News store is projected to be open by the end of February. The initial delivery of fabricated steel to support the terminal expansion in the food court occurred today.  The installation of this steel will commence next week.

Terminal Update This week the Airport announced a partnership with The Strong Museum of Play to feature two interactive play zones at ROC as part of the ongoing revitalization project.  Click here to read the full announcement.  The newly relocated Hudson News store is projected to be open by the end of February. Prep work for installation of steel to support the terminal expansion in the food court is underway.

Security Update The main passenger security checkpoint construction is progressing. Four passenger screening checkpoint lanes are operational in this location. During high volume travel periods, a secondary passenger security checkpoint - “Checkpoint A” is operational with two checkpoint lanes near the American Airlines Ticketing counter. As a reminder, passengers need to arrive at the Airport 90 minutes prior to their scheduled departure time.

Beginning Tuesday, January 16, 2018, a secondary "Checkpoint A" will be operational during peak travel periods at the Greater Rochester International Airport (ROC).  "Checkpoint A" will be located adjacent to the American Airlines ticketing counter and will consist of two passenger security checkpoint lanes.

During high volume travel periods, a secondary passenger security checkpoint - “Checkpoint A” will be temporarily operational during this time with two checkpoint lanes near the American Airlines Ticketing counter. Way finding signage and public notification will take place in the coming week.

Traffic & Pedestrian Pattern Updates Increased vehicle traffic is anticipated this upcoming week with the Thanksgiving Holiday approaching.  Family and Friends picking up passengers at the Airport are encouraged to use the new Smart Phone Lot for staging to reduce vehicle congestion.  The Upper Level Roadway will remain open for family and friends picking up passengers as an alternate option. Local law enforcement are actively assisting in maintaining traffic flow.

Hudson News Opens on Lower Level

The newly relocated Hudson News Store has opened on the lower level of the ROC Airport terminal.  The in-line shop is located near the center of the baggage claim and will be conveniently located across from the new passenger greeting area which will be under construction soon and is anticipated to open fall of next year.  The brand will also be opening a new Hudson Store post-security in the center of the food court as part of the ongoing terminal renovations.

Hudson News has been operating at ROC since 1999.

Beginning approximately Oct. 23, 2017 a temporary road closure will be in effect at the Greater Rochester International Airport (ROC) for ALL Lower Level, Outer Roadway Traffic.  The road closure will be posted and detour signs will direct all vehicles that normally use this roadway to use an alternate traffic pattern during this time.  

This roadway closure is necessary for the beginning phase of construction for the terminal entrance canopy.

Terminal Update All major work on the caissons is complete detailing being addressed next week. Pre-Construction meeting on the entrance canopy was held, preliminary site preparation will begin next week between the parking garage and the terminal. The Hudson News Store (lower level) is near completion and will open early next week. Restroom renovations post-security are nearing completion.

Bids have been received for the tensile fabric entrance canopy, structural steel for the food court renovation and new fiber for the terminal.  Caisson work in the North Ramp adjacent to the terminal building will begin the week of August 28th.  Passenger Security Checkpoint construction activity is planned to begin Fall 2017.

Bids have been received for the Security/Exiting & Enhancement project (Project A) and also the foundation package for Project B.  Contracts are being executed and awarded.  Passenger Security Checkpoint construction activity is planned to begin Fall 2017.

This week ROC hosted the Grand Opening of the new Airport Smart Phone lot. The lot is conveniently located before the terminal and features a large, digital flight information display so motorists arriving to pick up passengers can track arrivals. Thirty-one parking spaces are available along with an electric vehicle charging station.

The Smart Phone lot project continues to progress on schedule. Power installation to allow site activation is complete. Travelers may see minimal construction equipment as they enter the Greater Rochester International Airport property.  Parking Update All parking lots remain open. The current cell phone lot remains open for use. Please follow the black and white signs to the lot. The new Smart Phone Lot is moving along and will be ready for use by late summer 2017.
